GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and Privacy (Fair Processing) Notices

The GDPR is a piece of EU-wide legislation which from 25 May 2018 determines how people’s personal data is processed and kept safe, and the legal rights individuals have in relation to their own data. The GDPR is similar to the Data Protection Act (DPA 1998) but strengthens many of the DPA’s principles.

Our school handles a large amount of personal data. This includes information on pupils, such as exam results, medical information and much more. Our school also holds data on its workforce, governors, volunteers and job applicants. We also handle what GDPR refers to as special category data, which is subject to tighter control. This could be details on race, religion, ethnic origin, biometric data or trade union membership.

Our school has appointed a Data Protection Officer (DPO) who will advise on compliance with the GDPR and other relevant data protection law. As per the Department for Education advice we have decided to collaborate with another cluster school, Grange Primary, by sharing expertise and by being the DPOs for each other’s school. Therefore, our school’s DPO is the Mrs Tricia Pitchford. She can be contacted by phone 01772-792573 or by email bursar@grange.lancs.sch.uk
